Addressing concerns related to election-related crimes, Commissioner Sukumar highlighted that actions under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) have been initiated against those found involved. Appropriate measures, as per the CrPC, have been taken against them to prevent any undue influence on the polls.

In addition, non-bailable warrants have been issued against individuals involved in crimes causing bodily harm. Commissioner Sukumar emphasized the importance of weapon control, revealing that out of the 955 licensed weapons in the twin cities, 726 have already been deposited. Instructions have been issued to ensure the remaining weapons are deposited by March 25, 2024.

For enhanced election-related security, a unit of the Central Industrial Security Force has been deployed in the city. They are currently conducting route marches in vulnerable areas within each police station’s jurisdiction. Commissioner Sukumar assured that preparations have been finalized for the deployment of security personnel to ensure the safety of polling stations during the electoral process.
